Mental Toughness

Staying motivated to achieve your goals may be challenging at times. That’s when you have to dig in and push forward. That’s where mental toughness comes in. In this article, we’ll look closely at mental toughness and some of the traits that define it. We will also look at 5% Nutrition supplements that can help optimize your mental strength and performance.

What Is Mental Toughness?

Generally speaking, mental toughness is defined as the ability to stay strong no matter what obstacles you might be facing. One of the best ways to describe it comes from the Man himself, Rich Piana. What was it he always said? “Whatever it takes” - that’s what! Arnold was another legend that firmly believed in the strength of the mind. He often said that “if the mind can envision it, you can achieve it”. These men and those like them are the ultimate definition of mental toughness.

Traits Of Mental Toughness

This is by no means an all-encompassing list, but includes several of the most common traits.

Persistence

A primary quality of mental toughness is persistence. In other words, you just do not give up. You keep going, no matter what. While we’re talking about bodybuilders and other athletes here, this applies to anybody and any goal.

Confidence

Not arrogance, but confidence in your abilities. You must believe in yourself to succeed. Guys like Rich, Arnold, the other Mr. Olympia winners, other champions, and those who have achieved success all feel the same way.

Motivation

Some may talk about their plans. Those who win not only have a plan, they take action. Arnold is a prime example. When he first came to America, he didn’t just walk in and win. But, he quickly learned what he had to do, and of course he knew where he wanted to go. He had a plan, took the necessary action steps, and succeeded.

Positive Attitude

You’re not going to have much mental toughness or succeed in reaching your goals without a positive attitude. Have you ever seen someone on their way to the top that complains all the time? Or someone who never sees the positive in anything? You have to find the positive in all situations, and carry that attitude throughout your life.

Not Afraid Of Failure

Failing at something should never be a reason to sing the blues. Instead, look carefully and objectively analyze what caused you to fail. Then change the things you have control of, and move forward.

Focus

It’s easy to get distracted and lose sight of your goals. One of the most impressive traits of mentally tough people is their ability to set all that aside and focus completely on the task at hand. No matter what, keep looking at your goal and what it takes to get there.

You CAN Succeed

Rich believed that, if you applied yourself, you could succeed in bodybuilding (or your chosen athletic pursuit) and in life. He called it the “5% mentality”. Why not apply mental toughness to building a business? Or to succeed on the job, in school, or in life? No matter what goals you have, you will achieve them much easier if you have mental toughness.
